Hello!
Today I want to talk about one of my favorite lolita fashion brands, Jane Marple, and the two pieces I own from this brand.
Ever since I have been into lolita fashion, Jane Marple's designs and brand concept have really struck a chord in me! The kitschy uniqueness of the brand's items is something I've come to enjoy more and more through my many daily searches for items from this brand on secondhand platforms.
Looking back on it now, I remember looking through Lolibrary, just searching up very specific motifs that I am interested in wearing in my lolita wardrobe (imagine me typing "cross" or "music" or "cherries" into the Lolibrary search bar and just scrolling through pages upon pages of archived items from various brands with these motifs). Over and over again in these searches, I would find the most campy Jane Marple pieces, such as a necklace that is a tube of paint, or a skirt with an embroidered scene on it inspired by a fairy tale, or a broach shaped like a postage stamp. All of these items made me just fall in love with the artsy eccentricity of the brand.
After a while of finding myself drawn to the Jane Marple pieces in my Lolibrary keyword searches, I started searching for the brand on secondhand shops that I often browse, such as Lace Market, Depop, Closet Child, Wunderwelt, Mercari, and Fril. Something surprising happened then: my initial reaction to a lot of the items were "wow! that is so weird and kind of ugly" or "that is so plain!" but over time, I found it all to be growing on me, and I learned to appreciate the "ugliness" and "plainness." Now, when I do these searches, I am excited to see what strange or plain items come up. This feeling of initial dislike or shock or questioning is something I have come to appreciate in both fashion and other aspects of life, as it is an opportunity to take another look and re-evaluate things!
For the first item, the necklace, I bought it on September 25th, 2024 for $33. I have found it goes with most of my wardrobe, and it's so easy to wear! Details about the item: gold chain, gold chocolate bar charm, paper chocolate bar wrapper with the words "Jane Marple 30th anniversary" on it, and the chocolate bar charm has a red ribbon tied in a bow around it that has the brand name printed on it as well. It is just the cutest thing ever!
For the second item, the skirt, I bought it a month ago (December 12, 2024), and I've already worn it 5 times. It's just perfect (every lolita says this about every item they own, don't they? haha...). Details about the item: cream colored skirt made out of "94% Cupra + 6% Silk (Kersey) Swiss velvet ribbon, Lined" according to the
It also has a boarder print of musical notes, in black velvet. I love music themes in my lolita wardrobe because I am a (very casual) violinist, and I also love 2d idols (Uta no Prince-Sama, Idolish7, Ensemble Stars, etc.). I am so very happy with this skirt, and it was only $36, with $15 shipping - so $41!
